At St. Albert Honda, we’re proud to serve the Edmonton area, which is just a short drive from our location. Edmonton is a sunny Canadian city known for its festivals and warm community. Its location, centered between farmland and with the resources of the north, have earned the city nickname “Gateway to the North.” There’s no place quite like Edmonton.
Edmonton officially became a city in 1904, and has since grown to a population of over 930,000 people. As the capital of Alberta, the city is a cultural and economic epicentre. Historically, the area was a settlement during the Middle Prehistoric Era, but Europeans didn’t arrive until 1795. With the Hudson Bay Company, North West Company, and Fort Edmonton, the city quickly became a centre for the fur trade. Thanks to the success of agriculture and Edmonton’s location on the edge of the northern wilderness, it has since become an important spot for bush pilots, farmers, importers, exporters, and more.
Odds are there’s a festival happening somewhere in Edmonton no matter when you visit. You can check out the Edmonton Oktoberfest in late September, music festivals, cultural events, and more. TapRoot has a list of the 75+ festivals in the summer, perfect for families, friends, and anyone else you might like to bring.
Residents often suggest the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, the Edmonton Opera, and the Citadel Theatre as well. Even if you’re not a music or drama lover, many people spend their weekends at these world-class locations enjoying shows year-round.
Sports lovers can check out an Edmonton Oilers or Edmonton Eskimos game, the city’s NHL and CFL teams, respectively. Commonwealth Stadium, home to the Eskimos, holds a whopping 60,000 people, while the brand new Rogers Place, home to the Oilers, houses all the city’s hockey and concert events you can handle.
Whether you’re planning a visit to Edmonton or you’re a lifelong resident, there’s truly something for everyone in the Gateway to the North. Edmonton has an important place in Canadian culture, especially in Alberta, and we couldn’t be happier to serve the area.
